My name is Brittany Gates. I’m the creator and author of this website which I use to discuss my journey to upgrade from my current role as a Data Center Technician to a Software Engineering role. Part of that journey are my Web Applications. Their code is on GitHub, and you can view my profile here. I could have used the service to journal about those projects further. I do add information to each project’s README, but I don’t want to make them that long. Thus, I created this website using WordPress since I’ve used it on and off since 2007. I got off onto a tangent so I’ll get back to the task at hand: Providing an introduction and an explanation.
What Is A Brittbot?
I’ll explain the name of this website first. Brittbot is one of my many nicknames. I eared it while working at a startup in 2017. My job, of many there, was to create WordPress websites for clients. There’s more to that task, but I’m keeping it simple as an introduction and an explanation.
Well, I was so quick with that particular task the two individuals that made up the company’s Sales and Marketing team called me “Brittany Bot.” Then they shorten it to Brittbot. I liked the nickname so much I bought the domain name not long after.
What Will I Discuss On This Website?
Basically my path to get a Software Engineering role. I’m interested in Site Reliability Engineering, but I am interested in a regular Software Engineering role too. My path includes refreshing my Python programming skills, and build as many projects as I can. Oh, and I need to learn about Data Structures and Algorithms. Once I begin that process I’ll blog about that too.
I guess I could give a sneak peek about how my journey is going. I coded a Command Line Interface (CLI) game that’s available on my GitHub account. In addition, I’m watching Harvard’s CS50x 2024 Lectures on YouTube. I’m about a few hours in of the 20+ hour course.
I will also write about my Web Applications. I currently have three working versions. In future posts I’ll answer the following:
- The problem they solved
- Why I chose certain data structures in the code
- The hosting provider I use and why
- Any upcoming improvements to the applications
