JavaScript: Love Or Hate It, We Need To Learn It

I first learned JavaScript around 4 years ago I believe. I took a Full-Stack Web Development course on Codecademy because I wanted to revamp my IT career. The course was fun at first but then became difficult. It was hard for me to under Object-oriented Programming, just like anyone new to a programming language. This is when many learners turn to hate JavaScript. Yet, we can’t allow that to happen because the language is so powerful now. Which is why I learning it again. I’ll explain why.

What Is JavaScript?

JavaScript is a scripting language that allows you to manipulate webpages. Here’s the high-level definition from MDN:

JavaScript is a scripting or programming language that allows you to implement complex features on web pages — every time a web page does more than just sit there and display static information for you to look at — displaying timely content updates, interactive maps, animated 2D/3D graphics, scrolling video jukeboxes, etc. — you can bet that JavaScript is probably involved.

Why Learn This Language If You Use WordPress?

Great question as WordPress uses PHP. However, WordPress also uses JavaScript too. And I may want to change some of that code to improve my website or implement a new technique without waiting for WordPress or a plugin.

Another reason to learn JavaScript is to keep yourself marketable in this changing society. Too many people put themselves into boxes, be it C#, WordPress, Python, or even Ruby on Rails. But if you lose your job or if you take on a client that doesn’t want to use those technologies then you need to pivot. Yes, you can always teach yourself a new language if you already know one because you just need to learn how to implement the code, but that still requires time.

Finally, if you are looking to change careers into Web Development, which is still very popular today, then you have to learn JavaScript.

How Am I Learning JavaScript?

I love Udemy and I found this highly-rated course on the website. (By the way, if you’re interested in the course then wait for a sale to buy it. Udemy has a sale just about every other day.)

I’m having a blast right now. Actually, I like learning the language this time instead of the first time I learned. Yes, I run into times when I get stuck but I do love a good challenge.
